She was the type of girl who tended to be quiet, but that didn't mean Astoria was dumb. No, the younger of the two Greengrass sisters was quite bright, actually. She was just shy, and rather observant, not to mention socially awkward. It wasn't that she didn't try, she just wasn't very good at it. And so, despite the sunny day outside, Astoria retreated to the Clock Tower, all alone, hiking up the staircase to see if she could find something to distract her from her studies and from her lack of social life.

All those cogs and gears spinning together in harmony was quite the sight. Kenny found himself in the Clock Tower more often than he actually realized. It was a nice place really. Although plain and seemingly nothing but overbearingly chaotic noise, there was something special about the Clock Tower. There at the face of the clock, the minute hand ticking down to the next hour, Kenny knew exactly what it was that he found special about this place. It was the view, definitely the view. A small disturbance in the sound rhythm had Kenny glancing over his shoulder to see a strikingly beautiful blond girl. "Hello." Politeness' sake wasn't the only reason Kenny was smiling.

She hadn't actually expected anyone to be there; in all honesty, Astoria thought she would be well enough alone. However, politeness was instilled in her from a young age, and so she smiled somewhat meekly back at the boy who had greeted her. "Hi" She said quietly, though realized it was unlikely he would have heard her over the cogs. For this reason, she made her way to the smiling boy, and again spoke her greeting.

As the girl stepped further into the room it took everything Kenny had not to look too awed. She was absolutely beautiful, already he could feel his cheeks heating up with a blush. He stood up fumbling slightly in the process over his own feet. "Name's Kenny." A hand jutted out toward the girl. Kenny could feel a dork overload fast approaching and tried to simmer it down as best as he could before it reared its ugly head.

Slowly, Astoria reached out for Kenny's hand, shaking it lightly, "I'm Astoria," She said, trying to maintain the volume at which she had greeted him, "I didn't mean to interrupt anything, I know you were probably doing something, or wanted to be alone, or something - I can go, if you'd like, I don't mean to intrude." She babbled, feeling a blush creep up her cheeks as she let go of his hand. It was her curse to be almost painfully shy.

Looking at her Kenny would have never suspected that Astoria was the shy type, which was the impression he was getting the more she spoke. "Oh no, please don't leave. Your not intruding and I always love company." Trying to think quick on his feet, which around girls wasn't the easiest thing for Kenny to do, he tried to think of something to say that would encourage Astoria to stick around. "Great view, isn't. That's what I come up here for." With a sweeping hand Kenny gestured toward the mentioned view hoping to get her to come forward rather than retreat back.

Because she hardly knew Kenny, she had no choice but to take his assurance at face value, and so stepped forward to see the view that he mentioned. "It is really lovely" She told him quietly, nodding. Astoria had to admit, though, that she'd never really noticed before, too concerned with what was in the tower to look out.

"Yeah." Kenny agreed with a blissful sigh. Of course he wasn't really looking at the grounds, but at Astoria. Shaking his head to clear the daze he was slipping into Kenny cleared his throat. "But, uh, you didn't come up here for that. What then did you come up here for?"

"I like the way the cogs fit together, and the way it's too loud to properly hear your own thoughts, whatever they may be. I like noise, in general, but I don't like being around too many people all at once, because I get too flustered and it's all very awkward, so I end up coming here just to have that sort of... sound related comfort" She explained, babbling once again. Astoria had to wonder, was it sensible to share so much information with someone she had only just met? She couldn't stop the babbling once it had started, though, so there wasn't much she could do.

What she was saying made a certain bit of sense. Kenny wasn't all that great in crowds either. He was always the odd man out, or felt that way at least. Most of the time he felt like the butt of all the jokes. So he could relate sort of. "I never really thought of it like that. Like a controlled comfort zone, all the necessities none of the hassles." He nodded quite impressed with the notion.

"Exactly" Astoria said simply, trying very hard not to launch into another babbling rant. She smiled up at Kenny, as if to reassure him that he was correct, before looking out the window again, unsure what to say. What did one normally say when they first met someone? She felt like asking his house would be strange and that his year would be odd, too. Finally, she settled on, "But the view is very nice, too"

Astoria, Kenny noticed, had a smile that could light up a room- it did in fact with the room they were in. He felt his smile twist into that goofy lopsided one that made him look like a dope whenever he got nervous. "I don't think many people enjoy the simple things in life any more." Most had lives filled with drama, some couldn't avoid it but the students at Hogwarts did have a tendency to bring it upon themselves.

"It's hard to, sometimes. There is so much evil in the world that the simple, good things sometimes just don't measure up. A lot of people just don't let the good overwhelm the bad, and that's why they can't properly appreciate something like a pretty view or meeting someone who's so nice in a clock tower" Astoria answered, feeling oddly like she was babbling again, "Especially here, people are so wrapped up in themselves that they can't appreciate anything else."

Kenny blushed, unable to keep the treacherous reaction at bay, when she said that meeting him had been a simple, good thing. "I always thought that if times are bad it is the perfect time to appreciate the simple things. Keeps you optimistic." He voiced trying to calm the fury in his cheeks.

"A good plan" Astoria answered, nodding. She didn't necessarily feel the same way; she wasn't sure how she felt. She noticed his blush but had the sense not to mention it; she blushed often enough that she knew better.
