It wasn't so much that Drippy didn't enjoy the cold water of the Black Lake opposed to the fact that she just wasn't really in the mood to actually go swimming. Instead she sat on the bank with her wand in hand, using it to summon small fish to the surface, watching them dart and weave their way back under the water to safety. It was something simple, but something that was currently occupying her at the moment, which was enough. As she sat cross legged on the shore, Drippy allowed a soft smile to spread over her face.

Kenny had spent a good part of the day in the library and thought it high time he get outside for some fresh air. It was the reason he found himself approaching The Black Lake. His stroll around the grounds apparently leading him there. When he saw a blond girl by the lake his curiosity pricked. Kenny was never one to turn down company. He approached silently peering over her shoulder to see the fish she was summoning raise to the surface. "Hi there." Kenny greeted in that chipper tone of his. "Sure does look like you're having fun."

'Yeah, you could say that' Drippy responded after jumping slightly at the unexpected noise of someone speaking and twisting around to see who it was. He'd scared the living daylights out of her, all truth be told, but she tried her best to calm herself back down again, seeing no reason to be afraid of him. it had just been unexpected, after all, and there was no harm in a little bit of a shock occasionally. After she spoke, she summoned another fish to the surface, watching as the sunlight danced off its scales moments before it swam away again.

He'd frightened her, really Kenny needed to learn to stomp when he approached or wear one of those bells around his neck that would jingle with each step- this wasn't the first time he'd popped up on someone like that. Sheepishly, he rubbed the back of his neck feeling a bit guilty for his negligence. Kenny took it upon him to stoop down next to her to get a better look at the next fish she brought up. "Neat." He commented. "It looks kind of like a rainbow." Suddenly realizing that he was being rude Kenny extended his hand for her to shake. "I'm Kenneth Towler, call me Kenny though only my mum calls me Kenneth." Oversharing? Probably.

'Yeah, it does. It's pretty. I'm Drippy' Drippy told him, tearing her eyes away from the waters surface once again to place her tiny hand in his and shake it. She found his words funny, amusing, all truth be told. Not too many people introduced themselves in such a manner and it was refreshing, something that she liked, even if she did feel like she suddenly knew a little bit more about him than was actually necessary. It wasn't like it was a big deal or anything though.

At least she hadn't laughed in his face. It was a common reaction, although most girls only laughed good naturedly rather than to make fun of him, it still stung a little. The smile that had been on his face broadened considerably. "That's an interesting name. I like it, real unique." Drippy must have been a nickname though, wouldn't it? "You like the Black Lake then? I think I've spotted you out here a few times over the years. Sorry I'm only now introducing myself." Kenny wasn't a shy person in the least but he was sure there had been a reason he hadn't introduced himself earlier. He had some where to be, she was with someone, maybe it was that he had gotten the vibe she didn't want to be bothered?

‘It’s just a name’ Drippy mumbled with a shrug of her shoulders, not at all sure how to take his words. She wasn’t sure whether he was being genuine or poking fun at her, but she didn’t push the issue, either, didn’t voice her thoughts. There was no reason to get into an argument with him and so she simply bit her tongue for the time being, at least.
‘Yeah, it’s probably my favourite place here, I guess. It’s okay, too, because you’re introducing yourself now, right?’ She smiled, attitude changing a fair bit. She wasn’t bothered by the fact that he’d seen her out here and not said anything. It wasn’t like she’d expected him to or he had some strange obligation to do such a thing so there was no point in stressing about it.

Really, Kenny liked the name. It was different and if anyone could appreciate that, he could. He wasn't Mr. Normal himself. He kept the smile on his face though hoping it would tell Drippy that he was sincere. "Yeah, I guess that is right." They had some classes together too but Kenny didn't talk to anyone that he wasn't partnering with during class. He was a mega-nerd like that. "What do you like best about the lake?" There were so many possibilities.

'I dunno, there's just so much unknown, exciting stuff floating around under the surface. You can think you know it, but really you don't, I guess' Drippy told him with another shrug of her shoulders. She'd never really thought about why she liked the Black Lake, she'd always just known that she liked it, but she did find that the answer she was looking for came easily enough and with little hesitation before the words flowed from her mouth.

That was a pretty profound answer in Kenny's opinion. At least it had more depth than his reason for liking the lake. It was just a tranquil place to hang out at for him. Watching the steady surface brought on that inner peace that his mum often spoke of. There was also a satisfaction when a Herbology craving snuck up on him. The Black Lake had plenty of plant life to observe and admire. "Have you ever seen a mere-person or the Giant Squid then?" If Drippy spent her time out by The Black Lake for the unknown it was a good chance she had.

'I'm pretty sure I've seen one of the Giant Squid's tentacles, but other than that, no. I think they're pretty reclusive creatures, or they are when it comes to me, anyway' Drippy told him with a smile, turning her attention back to the lake and summoning another fish to the surface, this one a lot bigger than the last and she quickly let it go. It intimidated her a little bit, truth be told, although she certainly didn't admit that to anyone at the moment.

Kenny's eyes widened. A tentacle? That, to him, was like striking gold. "Whoa, that must have been pretty scary." He knew that if he'd seen a tentacle he would have been high tailing it to the castle in two shakes. The Giant Squid, as the name entailed, was supposed to be epic in proportion.

'Not really. I mean, how many people have swam in this lake over the years and that squid has never hurt anyone before, or not that I know of' Drippy shrugged, voicing her opinion. Why should she be scared of something that had never been any threat to her previously? There was no reason to and she wasn't about to start now, that was for sure, no matter how Kenny painted the Giant Squid to be.

Swimming in the lake was something usually reserved for the warmer months, although he never took part in the activity. Being shirtless publicly was a bit of a fear for him- body conscious and all that. He hadn't heard of anyone being attacked by the Giant Squid either but most people didn't go out far enough to encroach on its territory or deep enough for that matter. Kenny wasn't trying to dissuade Drippy. "I guess your just braver than I am."

'Or stupider' Drippy giggled, not at all actually implying that she thought she was stupid, but wanting to make him feel better, too, and it was every bit a possibility that he was smarter than she was, too. Once she was done giggling, though, Drippy shot him a genuine smile, wanting to show that she wasn't laughing at him at all, but rather at her own words.
