"Well then just go find her, if she's your friend - that's what I would do." Kurtis shrugged. If Kevin was wanting to date this girl, it would be different, but if they were just friends that would be reasonable.

Date someone else? Why hadn't that thought crossed his mind before? Could it have been because Kevin already saw Rose as his, not in a possession term but something else. He remained quiet for a moment. Kevin was never silenced like this, because for the first time in his life he wasn't sure what to say.
