Astoria wasn't paying attention to where she was going. She was too busy reading. The book wasn't anything special - just a little romance novel she'd picked up from one of her dorm mates. Was this an accurate representation of what men wanted? Damsels in distress, or strong women who somehow need help? She wasn't sure, but she was even less sure that she could be one if she tried. Between reading and pondering this, she had somehow gotten lost, ending up standing in the middle of a corridor she'd never been down before.

Forbidden? Pah! Fred didn't know the meaning of the word. Besides, there wasn't even much exciting up there - it was just a bit creepy. But alas, the younger students of the school were still intrigued by it, and often thought that they were doing something new and daring by entering the Forbidden corridor.
So Fred was going to give them exactly what they expected: a fright. Hidden behind a rusted suit of armour, he smirked to himself as he heard footsteps coming his way. Then, without a second thought, he jumped out with a vague 'scary' noise.

Astoria jumped nearly a foot in the air, before realizing that it was only one of the Weasley twins and blinking twice, completely startled. She wasn't even sure what to say, instead holding her hand to her chest and looking at him with eyebrows raised. "Why would you do something like that?"

Chuckling heartily at her reaction, Fred wiped away and invisible tear and shook his head at her, "Oh dear, you answered your own question before you'd even asked it!"

A look of confusion crossed Astoria's face for a second before she understood. He liked making other people uncomfortable, or something equally strange. "Oh" She answered, frowning, as she bent to pick up her book, which she had dropped in her start.

Fred swooped down and snatched up her book before she could reach it, then looked at the cover it. Making a small noise of interest, he raised his eyebrows at her and turned the book over.
"What're you doing up here, little'un?" he asked brightly, not looking up from reading the blurb.

"I got distracted, I was reading while I was walking." Astoria answered quietly, reaching out to try and retrieve her book from him.

Fred slipped the book open, "He held her tightly in his strong arms, for her knees were weak beneath her," he read aloud, totally deadpan. "And then I hope she tosses him through a third story window for squeezing the wind out of her." He turned the page, "Ah."

Embarrassed, Astoria felt her cheeks turn hot, and she considered cutting her losses and leaving him there with the book. "She... Doesn't, does she?" She heard herself asking, instead. This was terrible! She needed to get her book back and go! But hey, at least whatever twin this was didn't seem to want a silly swooning woman. Maybe that was the case for all men?

"No," Fred turned the book sideways as if it would be less terrible that way. "She dies," Lie. "I guess the weak knees weren't because of him. Maybe he killed her? That'd be a twist."

"I doubt that" Astoria said slowly, reaching for her book again. "They're very much in love, you know. Not everything has to have a twist"

Fred frowned, now turning the book upside down, "Doesn't have to have a twist?" he repeated blankly. "Where's the excitement in that? Doesn't she get to fire a crossbow at the man's other woman or something? No crossbows at all?"

"I don't think so - I mean there hasn't been one mentioned yet." Astoria answered slowly frowning, "Listen, if you just give me my book I'll be on my way" She said hopefully.

Fred looked at her properly for the first time, then screwed up his face in thought. "I feel like I should take advantage of having the upper hand in this situation," he considered, then paused, and handed the book back to her. Well, he was no Slytherin. "You shouldn't read that trash though."

"It's not so bad" Astoria pointed out, clutching the book closely to her chest, "Besides, it's like research."
