"Research?" Fred repeated, narrowing his eyes.

"Well it's not like you can read just any book, when you want someone to fall in love with you - this, I thought, would be the best way, because it shows what men want in women," Astoria explained, somewhat sheepishly, having a feeling he was going to disagree.

Fred, for a moment, looked as though there was something slightly smelly in the air, and then waved a dismissive hand as if trying to waft it away. "Sure, if you want a fictional man," he shrugged. "That seems a bit harsh" Astoria pointed out, being rather timid herself. "But you can't speak for everyone, either, can you?"

"Of course not," Fred conceded. "But think about it this way - would you want a man who constantly goes around punching people and starting arguments just to assert his alpha male authority? That kind of thinking is ancient. Or Slytherin."

"Well no, but... that's different, isn't it?" Astoria asked, frowning as she clutched her book a bit tighter, "being timid isn't violent and overbearing."

"Violent and overbearing is the male gender stereotype," Fred explained, slightly uncomfortable with the fact that she hadn't laughed at his Slytherin jibe. "Timid and weak is yours."

But she was raised that way. He likely wouldn't understand that, but she nodded, "I suppose that's true, but I wouldn't want to be vomited on for it."

"Hey, I can't help how my body reacts to things," Fred shrugged again. "I ended up in the hospital wing for a week after my first lesson with Slytherin in first year."

Concerned, Astoria's brow furrowed. "How?"

"Couldn't handle the hideousness of them," Fred explained matter-0f-factly. "My whole body started convulsing and coming out in rashes. I'm lucky I got out of there alive."

Astoria hoped he wasn't serious, but didn't laugh just in case he was. "Well, are you alright now, when you have classes with them? Unless of course you're only teasing..."

"I struggle, but I've had to just adjust." Fred informed, nodding valiantly.

"Poor thing" Astoria said quietly, quite sure he was joking, now. "Well, most of my family have been Slytherins. My sister is. I'm used to it."

"Ohhhh, of course!" Fred nodded as if he had just solved a murder mystery case. "That's why you're like this."
