Despite what may or may not have been said to Declan over the years about the Forbidden Forest, he still believed that it was a place of greatness and there was absolutely no stopping him from going in there whenever he pleased. Today he found himself crouched down watching a line of ants scurry back and forth not too far in from the treeline. Perhaps this was something he could have done outside the forest, but the thought of even watching them hadn't occurred to him until he was even in the forest and had spotted them. As he crouched there, Declan proceeded to drop things in their path to see what they would do.

It wasn't really allowed, but Elle had a perfectly valid reason for venturing into the Forbidden Forest- at least that was what she told herself when she had decided to pass that line of trees that acted as the forest's border. Yes, Eleanor, in the event that she got caught, had a whole spiel ready about the effects of curiosity and the dangers of not seeking out knowledge. While she moseyed about taking in the sights Elle had snagged her foot on a protruding root and tripped scrapping up her knee in the process. She knew she should have changed out of her uniform and into some jeans. With a stringing in her leg Elle headed toward the border only to stop short at the sight of a boy doing the most peculiar thing to a row of ants. "What do you hope to gain from that?" Elle asked curiously.

‘Mind your business’ Declan snapped when the girl he’d heard approaching spoke. He had, before she’d spoke, twisted around and sized her up, stealthily slipping his wand out. The problem here was that Declan didn’t trust people. His parents had taken him off guard enough times to convince him that it was most certainly necessary to make sure you were protected at all times as much as possible and this was as protected as he could get without giving himself away. Other than that, however, he continued on as before, moving obstacles into the ants way and effectively making them move around them and change their course. Ants were interesting creatures in Declan’s mind, so incredibly disciplined and frankly, honestly, he loved it.

Rude. First impressions spoke volumes and although Elle didn't let it completely decide what kind of person and individual was, it did count for something in her book. She didn't even notice that the boy had his wand drawn. Out of all the things in the Forbidden Forest to worry about a student didn't even make it on her list. She was a nice person herself but not a push over. "Well glad we got off on the right foot with each other." Sarcasm laced her tone, but in a playful way. This time, as she got closer, Elle offered a smile. "I'm Elle. And you are?"

'Mind your business' Declan repeated, instantly wondering what was wrong with people in today's society. Honestly, who did she think she was, coming around like she owned the place and quizzing him on who he was. Did it not occur to her that maybe he was in there for a reason? Once he'd spoken, however, he turned around to look at her with a hard face, hoping that she'd take the hint and shut up if she insisted upon staying. Declan, of course, would much prefer it if she didn't stay though.

Before the boy turned around giving her that harsh look Elle stuck her tongue out at him. What a brute, aside from some manners he could definitely use a personality to go along with them. Elle didn't scare easily. Maybe it was because she was a brave person, but more likely it was because she was a brazen person. "What is your problem?" She asked slightly incredulous.

'You not minding your business is my problem' Declan growled out, fingers tightening around his wand. She couldn't talk if he cut her tongue out, right, and that was what he was incredibly tempted to do at the present moment in time. Infuriatingly nosy she was, and then acted as though he'd done the wrong thing, as though it was her right to know the things she was asking him about. Ridiculous. What was wrong with parents now days?

This boy was incredibly infuriating. Elle placed her hands on her hips impatient with him, if he told her to mind her business one more time... She was usually such a bubbly person but the way that he was treating her, like common courtesy had no meaning to him, was bringing out a side of her that rarely showed. Everyone had their limits though. Taking a few steps up to him Elle sighed. "Maybe I'm not minding my business but I was taught to have some decency for others and when I see a person, especially in a place like this all alone, I at least greet them- try and start up a conversation. You don't have to be such a jerk about it."

'Maybe I was taught that you didn't stick your nose where it didn't belong, that you don't try and push in on other peoples business' Declan retorted with little effort. Honestly, this argument was getting old, and fast, because he'd had it so many times over the years that the responses he had to give almost came automatically. You'd think by this point in time everyone would just know to leave him alone and yet there were still people who didn't seem to realise who it was that they were interrupting, just how much they were actually pissing him off. This girl seemed to be one of those people, that was for sure.

Elle had gone and let this guy push her buttons. Admittedly, that wasn't all that hard a thing to do, she wasn't as strong willed as some were. But then maybe she had also been taking the wrong approach with him, maybe even no approach at all would have been best. Her defensive disposition vanished taking up one of pity instead. "Your sort of mentality must make things really lonely. Sorry for bothering you." Elle apologized. Maybe she should just walk away.

'With people like you? Not even close' Declan all but growled, wishing that was the case. He'd much prefer being lonely to being interrupted all day by people whose parents couldn't even teach them their place in society, parents who didn't bother teaching their children to mind their own business. To Declan, there was a lot wrong with the population of children and adolescents in today's society and he knew that it would cause a lot of problems in the future when they stepped up to run the world. He'd never get any peace, that was for sure.

He must have been a jerk as a defensive mechanism. It was what Elle choose to think at least. The tone in his voice was formidable though making Elle take another unconscious step back. She probably should just leave, that thought was even strong now. "Right, I can see that." Elle used a sounded sweet enough but there was an obvious undertone of sarcasm. He sure didn't seem like he wasn't lonely. Turning her back on him wasn't something that Elle was really chomping at the bits to do so took another cautious step backward.

'Good' Declan spoke in a neutral tone, turning back to his ants and dropping a pebble down on top of some of them, only for them to crawl out from under it. Not heavy enough, obviously, but the purpose of such an act hadn't been to squash them, only to test them and so Declan didn't bother hunting out another rock.

Her attention on the boy Elle didn't notice a small boulder behind her blocking her path. The next step back had her tripped over it landing on her butt on the other side with a thump and and ouch from her.

At the sound of a thump, Declan whipped around, not sure what was going on as he pulled out his wand. However, as he moved he heard her complaint, causing Declan to simply shake his head. People needed to pay more attention...
