The one thing Miles hated about being a prefect was getting people in trouble. Students often knew how easy it was to run past Miles. They'd often say ' i won't do it again' and Miles would let them run free. He told the Headmaster he wasn't cut out for this but the Headmaster 'believed' in him. And Miles wasn't one to let people down. Today it was late out and he was walking along the halls so far nobody in sight. He liked it that way. But he also enjoyed company.

Michael didn't know what it was about Miles Abbott, but something about the boy just got to him. Perhaps, it was the fact he had a shiny Prefect badge. He didn't tend to like anything at Hogwarts with a big shiny badge - it usually meant they could tell him what to do.
Still, it never stopped Michael from doing what he wanted, when he wanted. As of now, he desired nothing less, nothing more than to be out on the Grounds for a stroll around the Black Lake. He made his way carefully down the grand staircase, making quite a huge effort to be quiet. If the Prefect caught him, he supposed it wouldn't be too bad, but slipping by unnoticed would require less talking and less explaining. He didn't much feel like doing either of those two things at the current moment.

Pacing back and fourth. Still nobody in sight. Maybe it would be easier tonight then expected. That wouldn't bother Miles all too much. He only had to be on shift for another hour. But then he heard something. " Great..." he mumbled under his breath.
He really didn't want to have to scold anyone. Or would he really be able to scold anyone. If it was a Slytherin he would be doomed. They'd just shove him out of the way. He also hated the fact he was a fifth year. He was younger then two grades. How was he supposed to tell older kids to bug off back to bed!? That was when he noted it was a Ravenclaw Michael Corner. At least he thought anyways. " Michael?" he whispered.

Michael had to resist the urge to groan loudly in frustration. He smiled, instead, ceasing to sneak and walking as he normally would. There was no point in trying to be quiet now, anyway. "Ah! Miles Abbott - my favourite person in the whole wide world." The manner in which he spoke seemed to suggest he hadn't seen the Hufflepuff beforehand, which of course, was completely ridiculous seeing as he stood right before Michael's eyes. "Enjoying your rounds?"

Miles ran a hand through his hair. How was he supposed to actually lecture Michael. He knew he wouldn't. He let out a sigh and gave him a smile. Looking around to make sure nobody else was around. His eyes then averted back to him. " Umm. I suppose. What are you doing out of bed?" he asked in a casual voice. Not a demanding one. Which is what he should have been doing.

Michael shrugged. "Feeling like having a bit of a walk." Perhaps, he shouldn't have been honest, but he was. He doubted the other boy would even try to tell him off. He just didn't seem to have it in him. Casually, he continued in the direction of the front door.

Miles let out a short sigh. He just felt like going for a walk. What was the harm in that? He could let him go. Actually there was no could in it. Miles would let him go. " Umm. A walk to where?" he asked him more out of curiosity. As he started to follow him to the door.

Michael slowed down, raising an eyebrow at the Prefect's question. A walk to where? If he was going to be punished, would that even matter? He thought the boy must be lonely, or perhaps, just strange. "Round the Black Lake." He paused a moment, before speaking again. "Would you like to, err... come?"

Miles face lit up a bit. He knew he was failing at his job. But he told the headmaster this would happen. Besides maybe if Miles went with Michael there would be some non breaking rule among it. Like if you have a prefect with you it's ok. Just like having a teacher with you. Or well, Miles could pretend. " Sure!" He said the grin not leaving his face. What? Miles loved company.

Lonely and strange, it seemed. Michael raised both eyebrows now. Sure? He hadn't thought the boy would actually agree, but now that the decision had been made it was a little bit too late to turn back. "Lovely." He continued towards the front door, but seconds later, stopped in his tracks. He swiveled around to face the other boy, once again. "So you're not going to... tell me off? Tell me to go back to bed? Run off and tell a professor I'm being difficult? None of that?"

He gave Michael a strange look. Had he actually been worried that Miles would do that? He doubted he had. So he didn't understand the question. So he shook his head as he followed him out of the castle. " No, I don't see the harm in a walk." he said giving him a grin. Not that he would have probably told on the boy for doing something worse.

It wasn't that Michael was worried - he just found it incredibly odd. The boy wasn't even trying to do his job. If he were a different kind of Ravenclaw he would let a Professor know, but of course, he was not. He was just Michael Corner, and Michael Corner couldn't be bothered. Being a tattle-tale took a lot of effort. "Ah, well, good then." The boy really was following him. Definitely lonely. "But I really hope, for your sake, that we don't get caught."

Miles shrugged his shoulders as he followed Michael. He was really letting him be the leader. Miles didn't really care where he was being led. He was always more of a follower anyways." Well. I told the headmaster when I got the letter this wasn't right for me!" he said shaking his head still feeling like the headmaster made a mistake. " But he said he believed in me. " he said with a small frown. He figured maybe one day he'd be able to tell someone off for doing something. But it would probably be a kid that he had enough with. That actually was rude to him. And Miles couldn't be mean to Michael when he hadn't done anything mean to Miles. " So. If we do. We do." he said with a short nod of his head.

Michael made his way in the direction of the Black Lake, aware of the Hufflepuff prefect following at his heels. He rolled his eyes, shaking his head slowly at Abbott's words. "Well, I'm glad you're ready to accept the consequences then." There was perhaps a little bit of sarcasm in his tone, but he didn't think it would bother the other boy.

Miles wasn't sure if Michael was now planning on telling Miles. He never looked at this guy as a guy that would try and get another guy in trouble. Well, not Miles anyways. Michael seemed like the type of guy that would only go after a guy if the guy did something bad to him. But maybe Miles had him wrong? He wasn't sure. But he wasn't too bothered by it. It wasn't like Michael was trying to get Miles prefect position because after all he was a Ravenclaw. " I guess I am." he said giving an uneasy smile as he continued to walk beside him toward the black lake.
