why was it always so hard to find the classrooms in this castle? austen spun around on the spot, he'd spent years in this place yet still he couldn't manage to find a classroom without getting lost, those darn staircases that continued to change and rearrange themselves confused him to no end, everything always looked different. you couldn't rely on the paintings on the walls because they moved around, and left their frames heading over to see someone else. they must've all been laughing at him secretly, it wouldn't surprise him. brushing a hand through his slightly messy hair he sighed lightly, taking a few steps back in the opposite direction before he spun again "well this is no good..." he mumbled to himself, tucking his wand back in his pocket, as though pointing it out in front of him would some how light the way to the rune studies classroom. pacing back and forth a few more minutes he decided on a direction in his mind and started down that corridor towards the staircase at the end. of course, chances were he wouldn't get anywhere but lost in the maze of corridors.
but some how, about fifteen minutes later he'd wandered down about five flights of stairs and had ended up in the entrance hall right near the great big doors that led out onto the grounds. glancing at the time on his watch he sighed, knowing he would have missed class anyway, he headed right through the doors and out into the fresh air. it was dismal and dull out, grey and a little cold, but the sun was still high in the sky, currently hiding behind a bunch of thick clouds. he shivered lightly and took in a deep breath, letting the cold settle in his lungs and seep into his bones as he walked down the wet and muddy path towards the lake. the blake lake shimmered under the dull sunlight, a glittering trail leading right out into the middle off it. it was as smooth as glass and as beautiful as ever, it just gave the whole castle and setting around him that comforting relaxing feel that it needed to make this place more of a home. despite getting lost all the time, and the classes he always had to take, the rules that were constantly in place, it was still such a great place to be and somewhere he'd always remember.

It wasn't too often that Kevin came out to the Black Lake. It was a hot spot around Hogwarts. Some of the more bold females swam scantily clad in it and the boys watched, or they flocked to it for more sentimental reasons like the majestic scene that it offered. And what a majestic scene it was, a rocky mountain backdrop with a high noon sun causing the water to sparkle in all its glory. He had to appreciate the view, but Kevin lived by a simple rule for the most part; observe everything admire nothing. So, with that sort of mentality his appreciation was short lived.
A flat stone laid near the bank and Kevin picked that up rolling it around in his hand a few turns to get a good feel for its heft. Chaos theory was in mind when Kevin skipped it out over the surface watching it bounce on top for seven skips before sinking under the water. Still, even after the stone had sunk, the water rippled. It fascinated Kevin in the simplest of ways. Being as silent as he was it didn't surprise him that the boy that had come up not moments ago hadn't noticed him just a fair few paces down the shore, but with the disturbance of the water it was sure to draw his attention. Not that Kevin had been seeking it in the first place. Austen was his name, Kevin recalled, a classmate of his.
