Astoria nodded, smiling down at the table. "I always wished I had a brother. Older sisters are catty and mean." She explained, "And jealous of their younger sisters about every little thing." Of course, Astoria was speaking from experience. She supposed all kids were the same, though. "I always thought my parents should have adopted a son when my mother found out she couldn't have more children. I think adoption is lovely."

Graham didn't know anything about siblings, not having any himself. But from what he seen between Astoria and Daphne, it seemed accurate. He hadn't thought about adoption. Being pureblood it wasn't something that they did normally. "It is a nice concept but it's all about pairing, isn't it? Those kids wait for who knows how long to finally get adopted and if they don't get on well it would just be another thing they have to suffer through. Then seeing all the others that you don't pick... I imagine it would be difficult for everyone involved."

Astoria hadn't thought of that. "I suppose that's true, but wouldn't it be worth it? I mean... if it works out - and I think I would do my best to make it work out - you're saving someone's life, for all intents and purposes."

"If it works out, then yes, it would be worth it." Graham was just a bit scared of the possibility that it wouldn't.

"Hard work makes everything work out, doesn't it?" Astoria asked. "Adoption is a promise of unconditional love, right? Unconditional love for a child who you didn't happen to have."

For the most part hard work did, but there were always factors, unforeseen factors, that could crush it. Graham didn't like to think like that though so put it out of his mind. "Yes, I'm sure it is a rewarding feeling and would be appreciated by the child."

Astoria nodded. He didn't seem to really agree; reservations were natural, especially for purebloods who never really considered it. "My grandmother adopted a little boy, my uncle. He's non-magical, so we don't see him. We don't see anyone, really, on my mother's side other than my grandmother - they aren't interested in blood purity, like my father is."

"Would this be the same Grandmother that you bake with?" Graham inquired. He figured it might be considering the sweetness of both gestures.

Astoria nodded. "I don't get to see her often," She added, "But I feel like she's one of the few people who understands me. Or at least tries to."

Sipping at his tea before it went cold, Graham listened. "You take after her a lot, don't you?"

Astoria shrugged one shoulder. "I think it's more that I don't take after my parents, so everyone else has that much more influence." She explained, wearily fiddling with her mug.

"Or..." Graham started, pausing to take another drink. "The only person that really influences you is yourself and you just don't know it."

"I guess that's possible" Astoria smiled, swirling her tea around in the mug. "What's your influence?" She asked, smiling.

"Mighty Mouse." He teased... although it was accurate enough. The muggle cartoon was supposed to be chivalrous and strong willed. Chuckling softly Graham shook his head. "I don't really know actually."

Astoria had no idea what Mighty Mouse was - she presumed it was something like the mouse in the Narnia series. "Not your parents?"
