Graham reached over putting his hand on Astoria's shoulder. "You already are more than just some pretty girl. Your parents can't dictate who you really are pureblood or otherwise." So that was what Astoria wanted to rebel against; being the perfect pureblood daughter.

"I'm bred to be a wife and mother, and that, if I don't rebel, is all I ever will be." Astoria assured him, frowning, "Whether or not I'm smart or fun, or amazing, what matters is my anatomy and my blood, and the family that I get married off to. I guess it's not the same for you, but..." She shrugged, looking up at Graham again. She smiled, realizing just how wrong she had been. He may have wanted to be a good pureblood, he needed to be, but it wasn't for all the wrong reasons.

Graham understood now what it was that had Astoria distraught. His mother was nothing more than a housewife and socialite. Astoria wanted more for herself. "Then you have every reason to rebel. You should chase your dreams, whatever they may be." He returned the smile and removed his hand.

"I should, but I won't" Astoria shrugged again. "But thank you. I didn't expect you to... I don't know what to expect of you." She admitted, "I don't know what I thought but all of it was wrong... and I'm starting to see that that isn't a bad thing."

Astoria thought he was another arrogant pureblooded, Slytherin player with no compassion, low intelligence, and completely selfish. She wasn't entirely wrong. Graham was most of those things still but in a concentrated dose. To say that he didn't have negative aspects to his personality would have been stupid and incorrect. "It's okay I never really gave you a reason to think otherwise."

She found herself hoping that she would end up with someone like Graham; someone with the ideal front that she could be herself around when they were alone. Maybe her crush never went away; maybe getting to know who he actually was would make her want to be with him more, she just hadn't known it at the time. How strange. "I wish you had earlier." She told him, "You said you like figuring things out? I love learning, understanding. So thank you for the insight, even if there's a lot more to you than what you've told me."

"I didn't think you'd be interested in hearing my opinions." Especially since, at first, Astoria had liked what he had to say. "Moderation is key though. You've got to unravel mysteries slowly to enjoy them, I feel." Graham wasn't saying that he was a mystery or anything but he was complex enough to at least be a puzzle.

"I think it's worth the trouble" Astoria informed with a smile. It was beyond the crush, she wanted to be Graham's friend.

"You do? Well thanks." Graham was a confident guy but he never really let that confidence come through when it came to the stuff about him that was deeper than the surface. That was the stuff that he was so certain about.

"I'd rather know you than know what your father wants you to be - you've shown me the same courtesy, I should be thanking you." Astoria pointed out, then in an act of extreme boldness (for her) stretched up and kissed his cheek.

What his father wanted him to be was part of him but Astoria was right; it wasn't all that he was. Feeling her lips on his cheek Graham grinned. "I'll be sure to keep that in mind. Hopefully you'll do the same."

She settled back into where she was sitting, blushing furiously, and nodded, "I will," She promised him.

She didn't know what else to say, and her act of bravery had her feeling shy once again, so Astoria stayed quiet, fiddling absently with the hem of her skirt, watching her fingers as they moved.

Graham just watched her for a few moments amused with the way she fussed over herself. "I think you should have tea with me on the next Hogsmeade trip." He said out of the blue.
