On days such as the one that Graham had to contend with he found it most beneficial to be outside. The girls were sure to be out frolicking like the little nymphs they were in the sunshine that prieced through the thick clouds that soon promised rain. Sitting at one of the openings, one leg propped up, bent at the knee, and the other dangling lazily off the ledge, Graham was the epitome of laid back. As a group of girls passed by he flashed a signature smirk making them giggle behind their hands. How very simple, and yet Graham loved it.

Astoria often cut through the quad to get to the greenhouses and gardens. She wasn't sure why she did - it was always full of people - but she did. Today, as she did so, she was greeted by a ladybug, landing on the shoulder of her cardigan. She loved bugs; found them to be oddly endearing (probably because of the size of them compared to people - she often felt that size, because of her shyness) and lady bugs were, obviously, her favourite. She stopped dead in her tracks to pluck it off the soft material of her shirt and keep it in her hand, intending to bring it to the flower garden. Just as Astoria was about to start moving again, she froze dead in her tracks, looking up to see none other than Graham Pritchard sitting there. She couldn't quite convince herself to move, to enthralled with looking at him for a moment, before looking down at her feet and moving once more, intending to get as far away from the foolish crush as she could.

Graham leaned back his head letting his eyes drift shut for a moment while he soaked up that warmth in the air. Although he was used to feeling eyes on him, it was the burden of being good looking, one particular set felt incredibly intense causing him to look over to see who it was. Seeing the fair and beautiful Astoria Greengrass, her gaze now fixed on the ground, Graham smiled. She was such a sweet girl and watching the way that she acted around him was especially flattering. Hopping up from his seat he went after her throwing his arm around her shoulder. "Hey gorgeous. Nice day, isn't it?"

Gorgeous? Dear Merlin, she wasn't going to survive this, Astoria just knew it. "Good afternoon Graham" She responded shyly, his strong arm weighing heavily on her shoulders - something she most definitely didn't mind, "It is a very nice day," She agreed, watching as the ladybug flew from her hands. She took a moment to politely smile up at him, trying to remember just how to walk properly.

Astoria was too sweet really. But then that was why he was fond of her. Watching as the ladybug in her hand fluttered off he smiled again, returning her gesture. "Aren't ladybugs supposed to be a sign of good luck?" Graham was fairly certain that was their significance. "Best be on the look out for some favorability ahead, Love."

And then he smiled and she felt like she might faint. Instead she averted her eyes to look forward again, hoping that would help her regain some sanity. "Already got lucky, getting to walk with you, didn't I?" She asked, taking a deep breath - she had fear that she would actually faint if she didn't. "Though I could always use more good luck, what with the school year just beginning. We all could, I suppose. Quidditch players especially, and fifth years, since they have OWLs. Oh, and seventh years with NEWTs... You're in seventh, aren't you?" She babbled, Astoria's shyness getting the better of her as she was surrounded by his scent.

"I am." Graham confirmed. He found Astoria's babbling to be cute, which was odd considering in other girls, at least the ones that he'd come across so far, had annoyed him. "Afraid you're mistaken about one thing though. I'm the one that's lucky for getting to walk with you."

Astoria didn't know what to say to that, at all. He was being sweet, of course, and charming, as she knew he was, but she was nearly sure that he wasn't actually serious; how could he consider himself lucky to be around her, when he could be around any girl he wanted? "Well thank you" She said slowly, a blush tinging her cheeks even though she logically knew he wasn't being truthful.

When Astoria blushed Graham tenderly ran his thumb over her cheek almost as though he thought the action would smooth the colour away. Of course he didn't think such a thing. It had just happened, Graham hadn't thought about what he was doing until it was done. "Where are we headed anyway?"

All this touching was bound to make her swoon. "The gardens" She answered, still a little too in awe to do much else but answer simply. She had been intending to do some light reading near the flower garden, but i Graham was intending to stay around, she would forgo that and at least try to be social.

The gardens weren't a place that Graham visited all that often. But now that he thought about it there were plenty of reasons to go there. None of which were probably what Astoria had in mind. "Brilliant. I hope you don't mind my tagging along." Graham already knew full well that she didn't, but you couldn't go wrong with asking.

"Of course not" Astoria answered politely, as she was raised to do. "What had you been doing before I came upon you, if you don't mind my asking?"

"Absolutely nothing." It wasn't entirely true, more accurately Graham had been waiting for something of interest to come along and she was it apparently. "Just lounging around like a slacker. You saved me from that, thank you Astoria."

Another blush rose to her cheeks - and just when the other had started to fade. "Any time," She said quietly, looking forward again, "Though I think we'll just be doing much of the same, unless you'd like me to read to you."

Even as a child no one had read to Graham, not the way that Astoria was suggesting; just for the fun of it. While learning to read his mother had read to him but she wasn't the type to read bed time stories. For a second he wasn't sure what to say to that, but only for a second. "Well what would you be reading to me?"
