Chris huffed in annoyance as she reached the last book on the shelf and narrowed her eyes. She still hadn't found the book she wanted and she had been here for over an hour. Scrunching her nose at the amazing amount of dust she had managed to collect upon her hands while in pursuit of the elusive volume, she slipped her wand from her sleeve and cast a quick Scourgify. She reached a now clean hand up to brush away a loose curl and thought hard. She was running out of idea's on how to find what she wanted. Perhaps she would have to pay a visit to Borgin and Burkes? That would involve a trip to London and would be an awful lot of bother when she was so snowed under by research. Sighing Chris stalked toward the back of the shop, muttering about hexing the Gryffindor whom had told her to look in Obscurus.

Michael slipped the book he had been reading back into its slot on the shelf. Just like he thought - he'd read that one before. He sighed in disappointment, before moving onto the book beside it, flipping it open and scanning the summary. Hearing footsteps behind him suddenly, he glanced over his shoulder to see who the source of the muttering was. Chris Claremont, a fellow Ravenclaw - of course. "Hex who exactly?" he questioned, raising an eyebrow, catching only a couple of words.

Chris had been so absorbed in her search for "A History of Runic Curses" that she had failed to notice that there was anyone else in the shop. Spinning around, wand out, she found herself face to face with Michael Corner. "Oh for Merlin's sake.." She hissed under her breath. She really had to stop being so jumpy. It only aroused suspicion. "Hello" She put a rather convincing false smile on her face and gestured vaguely toward the castle. "Hex? Oh...just some immensely irritating Gryffindor girl who doesn't know what she's talking about."

"Ah, I know plenty of those," Michael answered, "Definitely hex-worthy. Now, if you could give me the place and time, I'd love to watch. In fact, I'll gather an audience and perhaps bring some peppermint toads - my favourite."

Chris blinked once, not expecting him to agree with hexing other students. Most people's perception of Ravenclaw was that of a talented, continually studying house of sticklers for the rules and while that was most definitely a stereotype, there were a few of her housemates who actually fit that description perfectly. She regained her composure after only a split second however and smiled again, genuinely this time. "I'd rather not have a large audience... I don't particularly want a detention, but you're welcome to watch, provided you share the peppermint toads."

"Hmm, I don't know about that," Michael responded, slipping the forgotten book back into its slot on the shelf as well. "I suppose I'll try, but I've never been very good at sharing." He crossed his arms, watching her now, wondering what she could possibly be looking for. He knew Claremont to be very fond of books - almost more so than most of the other Ravenclaws he knew, and much like himself. "Might I ask what you're looking for? Perhaps, I can help."

Chris had been about to say something sarcastic regarding the peppermint toads but was distracted completely by his question. Her mind quickly ran over what she knew about Michael Corner. She knew he was smart, well, that was sort of a given considering he was in her house but he was unusually so, even for Ravenclaw. She knew he was also an avid reader, much like herself, so the chances that he wouldn't have heard of what she was looking for were slim. Still, it was rare, and well known only to people interested in runes and it was possible he might be able to help. Despite being clever and stubborn Chris could also be...she hated the word lazy...It was more that she liked to do things efficiently and with minimal disturbance to her leisure time. "A History of Runic Curses" She replied, realizing that she had paused a little too long. "I think I might have to visit Borgin and Burkes for it"

Michael smiled at the book title. "Well, as it so happens, I have a copy of that book," he told her, remembering the last summer holiday he spent at home. At the beginning of every semester, it was routine for his mother to send him off with a dozen or so books she'd recently enjoyed. Since they had very much the same taste, it made sense for them to share books - and they had, all his life. "Recommended by my mother, actually. One of the very few I still haven't gotten round to reading. You can borrow it, if you like." He wouldn't be needing to read it for a while, anyway, he thought. He had to be in the right mood for certain books, and Runic Curses hadn't called to him, just yet. "Unless you'd like your own copy, in which case, Borgin and Burkes would be a smart idea." It would be far too dark for Flourish and Blotts anyway, and it was unlikely Whizz Hard books had a copy.

Chris looked at him in amazement "You have a copy?" She asked softly, her eyes lighting up. " then yes please. If you could lend it to me I will be eternally grateful" She considered it for a second before amending "Perhaps not eternally. But you'll be doing me a a great kindness and shall very much appreciate it" She couldn't quite believe it. She was one step closer to achieving her goal.

"Damn, I was liking the sound of 'eternally grateful,'" Michael said to her, before nodding once. "But of course - I'm very glad I could help." He gave her another of his almost-smiles and turned his head towards the bookcases. He ran his finger across the spines of books, searching for a title that would catch his interest. "Some of these books are just so... ridiculous," he thought, out loud. He pulled one in particular out of it's place on the shelf. "This, for example. Now, tell me, who exactly would be interested in reading about a young witch's adventures with some fanged geranium?" Seriously, who? "Is anyone even capable of having adventures with some fanged geranium? They are quite dull, if you ask me. Sure, fine, they bite - but so what? Children bite."

Chris chuckled and peered at the book over his shoulder. "It seems improbable to me. Mostly because fanged geraniums are pot plants unless I'm mistaken. They can't move around by themselves." She pulled another book off the shelves "No...this sounds much more exciting..." She said amusedly, showing him. "Adventures with pixies. I wonder if it was written by Lockhart?" She opened it and shook her head "No.."

Michael raised both eyebrows, looking down at the book in his hands. "Must have... carried them around with him on adventures then," he responded, before placing the book back on the shelf. He focused his attention onto the next book. "The centaur, the witch and the vanishing cabinet." He laughed, now. "Now that's definitely a rip off of a muggle novel I read a couple of years back."

Chris grinned. "You've read C.S. Lewis." Unusual for a wizard. Still, perhaps Corner was a Halfblood or a Muggleborn. She dident know. "Did you read the whole series or just that one?" Wow, here she was actually having an enjoyable conversation with someone who wasen't Maia. It felt decidedly odd, but nice. She looked more closely at Corner's face. He wasent a complete troll either. Far from it. Amazing. Intelligence and good looks could co-exist in men.

"Half-blood," Michael informed, "Of course - dad's a muggle. He loves those books. Most books, actually. I haven't gotten round to reading all the others yet." He'd only bothered with that one because he'd found that title, in particular, intriguing. "I need the right mood for a book. And I have quite drastic mood swings."

"Mood swings? But you seem so sedate" Chris said blandly, the slight smile tugging at the corner of her mouth the only sign that she was joking. Her heart dropped a little when he said he was a Halfblood. It wasn't that Chris minded in the least. She was far too well read and open minded to believe in blood status ideology. But her parents. If they found out she was making friends outside the circle of people they considered appropriate. Well it didn't bode well for Chris. That was why she found it so difficult to make friends really. Well, that and her very low tolerance for idiocy and ignorance. And most Purebloods she had found, were both idiotic and ignorant. That left non-purebloods, which was dangerous. Both for her and the person she was trying to befriend. She looked back up at Michael. "You're whole family seems to be very well read." Her voice was slightly wistful. She and her own families shared interest came in at the incredible total of zero. Except for her cousin Clarisse, with whom Chris tended to agree with on the matter of clothes. But that was it.
